Does anyone own a standing desk? Would love to hear some opinions about how effective they are for body health. Are they worth the investment?

I do have a standing desk, although I don't have an actual data to prove whether it's good or bad for my body 🤷♂️. What I can tell you is that I turn my desk into "standing" mode at least couple times a day for at least couple minutes (but very often for ~1h or so). I often do that also during the calls while at work so I can walk around my office.
The common sense tells me it is healthy and good for my body. But again - I don't think I can prove it in any way :).
Nevertheless I highly recommend investing in a high quality standing desk (yes, a bit more expensive probably) - while in standing mode some of the cheaper ones like to be a bit shaky which is a bit annoying while working.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I have experimented with a makeshift standing desk in the past and it felt good to switch between sitting and standing a few times a day. I also often find myself standing and walking around when I am taking phone calls at home. Last time I was at IKEA, I tested a standing desk and also found that it was really shaky and not the best quality so I wasn't convinced at the time.
I like the idea of alternating it. My watch is always nagging me to get up and walkabout. Would be even better if I could automate it, when my watch notifies me to stand, then my desk just starts increasing its height automatically!
Now that is a really cool idea for an automation project!
Just like me then!
I see Pawel all the time at his standing desk 🤣
I have one. Snagged a great deal on it. The benefits for me are one, changing position (the obvious one), but also when I'm standing, I have an awesome mat that lets me move around. I stretch my legs, move on it. It's really great. Here's my full home office setup.
Thank you for sharing Nick! Love your setup, it's given me some good ideas! I'm going to keep an eye on the MotionGrey desk, hope they have a sale soon. When you put pressure/weight on it does it shake at all?
You can put some pressure on it, but I wouldn't lean my whole body into it. Also in terms of ergonomics, you probably would want to really be leaning too much on your desk. 😎
I mainly ask this question because most electric standing desks I've tested so far are really shaky. Right now im using a big L shaped desk that has 4 screens, 1 desktop PC, 1 laptop, and 2 KRK audio monitors on it. This equals to quite a bit of weight. I was thinking of using a mount for the screens in order to make some space if I got rid of this desk and moved to a standing one.
I learned a great deal from Kelly Starrett's Becoming a Supple Leopard, and the standing desk was the best change I implemented once leaving the Military and working as a Software Engineer.
Er, this book looks amazing. Ordering it right now 😎 thanks the heads up Jesse!
I don't have one, but I know many that do and they have nothing but praise. I like Pawel's idea of alternating below, the best of both worlds.
Also don't forget the ab roller, it will strengthen your core and your lower back. Hard to get started at first but you'll be doing +10 in a day no problem, best investment I have ever made for my core and lower back at about 11.99 from Amazon
3 essential purchases I made for a healthier and happier home working environment

I totally should invest in an ab roller. Thank you for sharing!
I think it would prevent back ache :)
That only happens to me when I hit 6pm 😂😂
I found myself sitting like the second guy while watching a TV show the other day. The next day I woke up with my a stiff neck. Those are not fun I tell ya!
I have one. It took me ages to get into a pattern of working but know it is so ingrained into my daily routine, I couldn't do without it.
Can you share which model/brand you have?
I'll check - it was assigned through my work
Update.. I did a DIY standing / walking desk!
